La
Manzanilla, is located on a section of
the Mexican Pacific Coast called the Costa Alegre
or happy coast, four hours south of Puerto Vallarta, one hour north
of Manzanillo. Once a small fishing village, its becoming
a destination for travelers who prefer things a little more down
to earth. No resorts or night life, just miles of pristine beach
and a small friendly community.
Most visitors to La Manzanilla rent houses or bungalows.
When you walk around youll soon be meeting and greeting people
from many parts of the globe. Locals, be they natives or internationals,
are friendly and always happy to accommodate visitors.

Slow
yourself down and enjoy the tropical pace. Think you might get bored?
There are plenty of other activities not limited to the usual horseback
riding, fishing, and hiking. Many artists make La Manzanilla
their winter home, there are galleries and a community cultural
center offering classes. Weekends there are movie nights.
A
new addition, La Catalina Language School uses local school
teachers and a natural approach to language development. They will
be happy to arrange for classes which will meet your needs at www.lacatalinaschool.com.
There is also a small local cooking school.
Crocodiles, up close and even closer if you want to take
a wetlands excursion paddling through the mangroves which border
La Manzanilla. Dont worry, a fence keeps people and
dogs out of their territory. Benches have been set up by a small
exhibit prepared by local schoolchildren just off the beach, usually
theres an ice cream vendor there too.
Sea kayaking and snorkeling tours are also available.
